The Forks

If you’re looking for a one-stop-shop, The Forks is the place to go. The Forks hosts over 20 restaurants with options ranging from sit-down dining, to grab and go meals, to delicious desserts. If you’re visiting solo or with a group, there really is something for everyone.

The Forks Market is a centralized location within Johnston Terminal, and many of the food vendors are located throughout the market. Each time I have visited each person will decide what they are interested in and go and order. We then meet back and eat our meals together.

In addition to the food vendors, located in The Forks Market area are two craft beverage options The Common (beer and wine) and Fools & Horses Coffee Co. (coffee and tea). The Common has 40+ beverage options on tap at any given time, many of which are local to Manitoba and Canada. Fools & Horses Coffee Co. serves a variety of craft coffees made primarily with Pilot Coffee out of Toronto.

I have had the opportunity to try a few of the vendors and I really don’t have a negative thing to say! Most recently I tried Fergie’s Fish and Chips, the perch is locally sourced and SO good. I also tried Red Ember Common I can confidently recommend the Happy Pig Pizza (vodka sauce, red onion, house pork sausage, fontina, and parsley). Other places I can recommend from experience include Zorba’s Greek and Fusion Experience.

After your meal, don’t forget to run upstairs and grab a few macarons from Jenna Rae Cakes!

La Brasserie Nonsuch Brewing Co.

La Brasserie Nonsuch Brewing Co. has such a fun atmosphere for enjoying food and drink. Imagine your grandma’s living room but chic. The staff was so nice and the food was so good!

My Order: Blackberry Plum Sour (the menu rotates frequently), the Kale Ceasar Salad to start (House smoked bacon dressing, crispy garlic, parmigiano, boquerones, and sourdough crouton), and “La Burger” (Brisket and chuck smashed patties, cheddar, melted onions, and dill aioli).

Patent 5 Distillery

After dinner at Nonsuch Brewing Co. we popped over to Patent 5 Distillery (just around the corner). This cute stop has such a moody atmosphere and a very fun menu. Patent 5 Distillery has a unique set of cocktails in a zodiac inspired menu. Each zodiac sign is assigned a cocktail crafted with on of Patent 5 Distilleries own Spirits

My Order: I stayed true to my sign and ordered the Aries cocktail. This drink is described as light, peppery and tropical and includes: Elettaria Spiced Gin, Jalapeño-Infused Navy Strength Gin, lime juice, spiced syrup, pineapple juice, and a Tajin rim. This cocktail was so fun and tasty!

Jacki’s Order: Jacki also stayed true to her sign in ordering the Scorpio cocktail. Her bourbon-based drink came topped with foam and beautiful read hearts. The Scorpio cocktail is described as sweet, sour, and sharp and contains: Bourbon, Amaretto, Demerara Syrup, lemon juice, Peychaud’s bitters, cranberry bitters, black pepper and cardamom bitters.

Parlour Coffee

Parlour Coffee is a cute and trendy coffee shop located in the heart of the exchange district. This was the perfect place to grab a quick pick-me-up before a busy day of exploring Winnipeg!

My Order: I ordered the Molasses Latte and a traditional croissant. Both were delicious! For some reason Molasses always feels very nostalgic to me.

Clementine Cafe

Then I tell you Clementine Cafe is popular… I’m not kidding! We got there 10 minutes prior to opening and there was a line down the block.

Clementine Cafe is a basement level restaurant, but somehow it feels airy and bright. The decor is eclectic and cute and the food is DELICIOUS!

My Order: I ordered a black coffee and the Clementine Breakfast Drink (100% recommend!) to start. The Clementine Breakfast Drink is non-alcoholic combination of orange juice, yogurt, orange blossom, and vanilla. For our meal Jacki and I ordered the Braised Bacon Benedict (thick cut braised bacon, brown butter Hollandaise, dill, and poached eggs on a buttermilk biscuit) and the Brussels Style Waffle (berries, hibiscus syrup, lemon curd, whipped cream, and lemon poppyseed milk crumble) to share.

This really was the best combination because the Eggs Benedict was rich and hearty and the Waffle was light and airy. I would recommend both dishes!

One Great City

If you’re looking for a fun brewery experience, One Great City is the place to stop. One Great City is located near Polo Park Mall and has great options for food and drink. Each time I’ve been there it’s been busy (always a good sign!)

My Order: Monkey Trail Pale Ale- so refreshing! For food I have tried the Deep Fried Pickles, Smoked Chicken Nachos and the Kimchi Cajun Wings. All are good but you have to try the nachos!

Gather Kitchen and Bar

If you’re looking for an upscale dining experience I cannot recommend Gather Kitchen and Bar enough! Gather is located within the Leaf at Assiniboine Park. The atmosphere is modern but traditional with a very casual and comfortable vibe. They have a full menu of delicious and beautiful cocktails plus tons of great food options.

My Order: The Turkish Delight Cocktail- you have to try this, so delicious and great presentation. The Turkish delight contains: 1.5 oz Patent 5 Manitoba Berry Gin, cranberry juice, lemon juice, rose water, egg white, candy floss, and Turkish Delight. For my meal I ordered the Confederation Cove Muscles (Confederation Cove mussels, tomato, roasted pepper pesto, za’atar naan).

Colosimo Coffee

Colosimo Coffee is the cutest little coffee shop just across the bridge from the Canadian Museum Human Rights and The Forks. This shop is a great spot to pick up a yummy drink for a day of exploring. Colosimo Coffee Roasters source their own beans which can be purchased by the bag.

My Order: I went with a classic Vanilla Latte during my last stop. They have tons of great options including:
