Northwoods A-Frame and Tiny Cabins are located in the Heart of Minnesota just outside of Itasca State Park. The property holds the A, two small cabins- Nord and Wald, and the Bath House. I had the pleasure of staying at the A-Frame for a weekend with my boyfriend and my parents this fall. The goal of the weekend was to relax and enjoy the space. I often find myself busy or rushing on the weekends (Travel Blogger things), so it was a treat to slow down and enjoy some quality family time.
Tyler and Mary, the owners and creators of the Northwoods A-Frame and Tiny Cabins, thought of everything. Every detail is cohesive and creates an oasis in the trees.

1. It’s Beautiful
Who doesn’t love a stunning stay? Northwood’s A-Frame was built in 2022, and every detail was thought through. While we stayed I found myself taking in each room; every tile, fixture, and accent was grounding. The palette that Mary and Tyler chose was earthy yet minimalistic.
The “A”
There’s something about an A-Frame that adds to the cabin experience. The shape is traditional, modern, and unique all at the same time. The wall of windows softens the connection between indoor and outdoor living.
The Details
As previously mentioned, Mary and Tyler thought of everything. The cabin walls are artfully crafted in white shiplap and live edge beams are utilized throughout the space. The blue-green tile in the bathrooms compliments the other natural features.
2. It’s Secluded
If you’re looking for a cabin-in-the-woods experience, this is the place for you. Settled on 40 treed acres, you’ll have the place to yourselves (with the exception of any visitors in the Tiny Cabins!).
One of our favorite parts of our stay was the stillness of the property. With the exception of a few deer in the woods behind the cabin, it was just us for the weekend. I love that the A-Frame is settled back and away from the road, this adds to the seclusion and feeling of security of the space.
3. It Has Everything
The Northwoods A-Frame has everything you need for a perfect weekend. Many of the amenities encourage a feeling of togetherness; this was one of my favorite parts of the cabin.
The Kitchen
This kitchen has everything you need to host or be hosted for the weekend (just bring the food!) The cupboards are stocked with a full set of cooking and bakeware. Before we left I planned out what we would have for each meal while we were there. I broke down the menu and made sure that we had all of the ingredients we needed. We had food for two breakfasts, two dinners, and one lunch.
The Game Cabinet
The Northwoods A-Frame has the game cabinet of your dreams! There are so many new or nostalgic game options to choose from. While watching TV or a movie together can be fun, I love how playing a board game can elevate feelings of togetherness.
The Fire Pit
The Northwoods A-Frame has the perfect fire pit a short distance from the back door. During our second night visiting my Dad built a fire and we spent the evening enjoying s’mores and chatting.
The Makerspace
I have never seen anything like The Makerspace in a Minnesota Cabin before. Given that we live in one of the Northern States, I believe something like this is more than necessary. Tyler and Mary thought of everything in terms of craft supplies. I look forward to returning and making more use of this space!

4. It Has Room for Everyone
The Northwoods A-Frame is the perfect place to spend time with family or friends. The Cabin sleeps up to 8 with 3 separate bedrooms and an inflatable mattress available.
There is one bedroom located on each floor of the Northwoods A-Frame. Each room is spacious and unique. Everyone in our party slept well during our stay!
The A-Frame has 2.5 bathrooms. One full bathroom on the main floor with a shower, a half bath in the loft, and the basement has a full bathroom with a bath/shower.
5. It’s Near Itasca State Park
If you’ve been around a while you know that a State Park is a huge selling point for me. The Northwoods A-Frame is located only 10 minutes from the North Entrance of Itasca State Park.
While we were there we visited Aiton Heights Observation Tower and hiked Deer Park Trail from Douglas Lodge and Forest Inn. We look forward to exploring the Mississippi Headwaters when we visit in January! Stay tuned!
