Your Guide to the Fargo-Moorhead Beer Scene

You can’t beat a weekend spent brewery hopping! For all you Fargo/Moorhead locals, you know what I’m talking about! As for the out of town visitors, you are in for a real treat because we have some outstanding brewery options! Even if you don’t enjoy craft beer, you just can’t ignore the ambiance and vibe a brewery gives off.

Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder! It’s a very subjective thing and for me, it’s about the feeling. Imagine its Friday afternoon… you get off work to go and meet your favorite people for the end of the week catch up… you have a list of new beers to try and endless conversation to be had. The weather is just right, the vibrant ambiance matches your mood, and you settle in for your first sip… MAGIC! There’s a real art when it comes to craft beer. Endless flavor combinations and unique names all add to that experience. Each local brewery has its own flare and I’m excited to share what I enjoy about them and encourage you give them a try!

Drekker Brewing Company

Talk about a brand. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve seen their beer and merch throughout the country! Drekker is known for its sour beers. Braaaaaaaains is a popular sour smoothie always packed with an endless combination of fruit. People Eater is another sour, that is more crisp with blueberry and basil. Is your mouth watering yet? But my personal favorite is their I Don’t Know No Snakes, a good ole lager!

Beyond the beer, their taproom is always full of action with weekend food trucks, pinball machines, and card/board games. When the weather is nice, they also have a great patio with lounge chairs and a bonfire! It is family and dog friendly too. A perfect Saturday afternoon stop if you ask me!

Have you seen their new look?! They did a remodel last year and of course I was there in all of my excitement on opening day to see the new vibe. It embodies to me, exactly what a brewery is. The bar is super sleek and modern looking with a seating area inside and out. How could I forget to mention they have a barbershop attached and a small venue for concerts! You quite literally get to enjoy classic craft beer and a show.

What I like about FBC is the that every style of beer is represented. So do yourself a favor and get a flight when you make your visit! The OG (Fargo Original) is my favorite as it’s light and crisp. Great for an introductory to craft beer drinking!

Wild Terra Cider Company

This is a great mid-day stop if your brewery hopping. Why? Because craft cider, plants, and patio vibes = happiness. They have fun, funky cider choices all year around and their saying “sharing our good times cider to promote positivity and connection” just makes it a place I want to visit. They have such an inviting spot with the cutest patio area that on summer days has live music!

Inside they have a main level area to sit, order, and snap a photo with the wildlflower wall paper. You can also venture upstairs for more cozy seating and a selection of games to play with your crew. It’s a good times and good vibes kind of a place. Drink cider and be happy, it’s truly that simple.

Once you’ve enjoyed the Fargo brewery scene, it’s time to jump over the Red River into Moorhead, MN. There is still more beer and fun to be had!

Swing Barrel Brewing Company

You will find that this is a smaller taproom but not small in their beer flavors! This is another place that when the weather is nice, the patio is the place to sit! Picnic style tables with café lights strung over the top sets the perfect beer drinking ambiance.

Are We Not Men? is a solid lager that’s uncomplicated and easy to drink. My current obsession is their spiced winter lager, Red Ryder, as it’s crisp with orange and cinnamon. Who knew those flavors in a beer would be a fast favorite of mine?! Swing by Swing Barrel with your friends. You will be glad you gave them a try!

Junkyard Brewing Company

Junkyard is my families favorite! Let me tell you why. It’s their beer, layout, perfectly seasoned popcorn, patio, and open garage doors that brings us pure bliss during any visit!

They have two bars. One at the front by their merch, then as you as you walk in further to explore, BOOM another one right around the corner. Easy access to beer no matter where you sit!

The wall art is also something you can’t ignore. Super cool, new school weird, and uniquely fun. It’s an eye catching backdrop for your Instagram photo!

And don’t even get me started on the weather when its a high of 75 outside! The patio is packed, the garage doors are open, and a weekday happy hour (or two) is a must! Hungry? Cool. Sol Ave is right next door and you can order from your phone and a few minutes later walk a few steps to pick up.

Ah yes the beer… did we think I wasn’t going to get here? Three words… try it all. Seriously! Between the lagers, sours, seltzers and the IPAs, it’s a palette you can’t forget!

And there you go, the Fargo/Moorhead beer scene! Breweries are apart of our culture. The places we can gather together with friends, co-workers, and ultimately join together as a community. Our local  breweries are what make living and visiting here memorable. You just show up and enjoy the unique offerings each one offers!
